Dental implants are replacement teeth inserted in the place of missing teeth. A person might lose their teeth because of various reasons, such as external damage, cavities, surgery, etc. In such cases, those who wish to have their teeth restored can opt for dental implants as they are the best option for replacing lost teeth. Implants look and function exactly like natural teeth. They can be inserted in place through surgery.
The dentist screens the patient for any possible problems in the jaws, gums, and the adjoining teeth. Healthy gums and strong jawbone are essential for a person who wishes to get dental implants. The dentist gives local anesthesia to make the oral area numb. Next, he makes an incision on the gums where the implant is supposed to be inserted. The jawbone is exposed by moving the gums aside, after which using high-precision instruments, a tiny hole is created in the jawbone. Water act as the cooling and cleaning agent. The dentist then inserts the root/base of the implant into the hole. Using dental adhesives, he fixes it firmly in place. Next, he fits a crown to the metal base. Again, dental adhesives are used along with the abutment to set the crown on the metal base.
Though dental implants are slightly expensive compared to their alternatives, they are worth getting done as they are pretty efficient in the long run.
